GET TO KNOW YOUR CAPTAIN

Richard Mariano Jr

Richard started playing baseball at the age of 4yrs old. Graduated from Mililani High School (c/o 2007) with State Honors in Baseball as a “Utility” player. Attended Monterey Peninsula College, CA (Fall 2007-2009). While at Monterey, I competed as a Pitcher; and concurrently started my coaching career with youth travel clubs. Received a full-ride scholarship and transferred to the University of Hawaii at Hilo (Spring 2010-2013) and competed as a Two-way: Pitcher/Catcher. From 2014-2017, I continued my passion for baseball coaching in the youth in local Hawaii communities. In Fall of 2017, I decided to give baseball one more “shot”, and attended a one day open-tryout as a pitcher. Did well enough to be invited to a one-day tryout in Palm Spring, CA. Again did well enough to advance to a Month-Long tryout in the California Winter League. With multiple suggestions from scouts n coaches, I converted my approach to be a full-time “Knuckleball” Pitcher. With a little luck, perseverance, dedication and hard work; I signed a professional contract with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the “Atlantic League”.
